Who are we?
We are an international group of theatre-makers with a commitment to making simple, genuine, alive and imaginative theatre that crossbreeds actor-oriented laboratory theatre traditions with spectator-oriented popular theatre techniques and aims to engage its audience on a visceral, intellectual and personal level.
What do we do?
We make conceptual, physical, visual, aural performances set in promenade, site-specific, durational contexts, responding to literature, mythology, iconography, art with stories, actions, walks, songs, tricks and a bit of clowning.
We play with the cross between the familiar and the alien, the recognizable and the unknown, repetition and difference, the classical and the contemporary, the cultural and the trans- or cross-cultural, the precisely specific and the ‘universal.’
We investigate new models of training, devising, performing through constant practice, teaching, workshops, work-demonstrations, work-in-progress performances as well as papers and presentations.
Why do we do it?
We imagine that our theatre can be like the pea under the mattresses that keeps the princess awake, a reminder of what we and our audiences already know but perhaps have forgotten.
We imagine we can also be the princess searching under the nine mattresses to find the pea, that one of many ways of telling a story that best connects us and our audiences.
Who do we do it for?
We make work for first-time theatre-goers as well as seasoned spectators, we make work for ourselves and each other, we make work for people we have met and those we haven't met yet, we make work for our neighbours and we make neighbours by taking our work place.
